Greetings

The 23rd Annual Conference of the Japanese Society of Transcultural Psychiatry is scheduled on October 1-2, 2016.
The Society was established in 1993 to investigate psychiatric issues that emerge in relations among cultures and covers the field of psychiatry across cultures through interdisciplinary coordination among the fields of anthropology (cultural anthropology and medical anthropology), ethnology, sociology and others.
For the 23rd Annual Meeting, we have chosen as its theme, "psychiatry for multicultural coexistence" In the rapid globalization, we look forward to your cooperation in making the meeting fruitful one through the assembly of knowledge and wisdom that contribute to multicultural coexistence.
As guest speaker, we have Professor Leif Bertilsson from Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, to speak on "Inter-ethnic variability of metabolism of psychotropics and its clinical significance," spotlighting pharmacotherapy in psychiatry with attention to ethnic differences. We also have Professor Soma Ganesan from the University of British Columbia, Canada, scheduled to speak on psychiatric medicine crossing cultural barriers under the title, “Cross cultural psychiatry formulation, how it can help to better understanding your patients and offer better treatment.” As educational lecturer, we have Dr. Katja Kölkebeck from and she will give a talk with the title “Impact of culture on the biology of social cognition in mental disorders”.
For the reception, we are planning to offer dumplings, cocktails and other popular fares of Tochigi. In addition, we will have "The King of Literal Translation Rock" as special guest. He is a delightful entertainer who has been performing 1970-80s rock music with lyrics literally translated into Japanese for the past 20 years.
We sincerely look forward to your attendance.
